About the Role
Job Overview
The Estimator will be responsible for developing accurate and competitive cost estimates for large-scale civil construction projects. This role involves reviewing project plans, specifications, and requirements to produce detailed budgets that align with project goals. The Estimator will work closely with project management teams, suppliers, and subcontractors to ensure estimates are precise, competitive, and timely.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare detailed cost estimates for heavy civil infrastructure projects, including roads, bridges, utility installations, and earthworks.
Analyze blueprints, drawings, and project specifications to determine material, labor, and equipment costs.
Use estimating software tools such as Bluebeam, PlanSwift, or Sage Estimating to perform takeoffs and compile cost estimates.
Communicate with subcontractors and suppliers to gather pricing information and validate cost assumptions.
Evaluate project risks, scope changes, and budget constraints, ensuring that estimates are both accurate and competitive.
Collaborate with the project management team to review and finalize cost proposals and assist in bid submissions.
Continuously update cost databases with current labor and material costs, keeping up-to-date with market trends and construction methodologies.
Prepare bid proposals, assist with contract negotiations, and communicate cost data with clients and stakeholders.
Maintain meticulous documentation of all estimates, revisions, and pricing changes throughout the project lifecycle.
Requirements
Qualifications and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field. Relevant work experience may be accepted in place of formal education.
A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in construction estimating, specifically in heavy civil infrastructure such as roads, bridges, and utility systems.
Proficiency with estimating software such as HCSS HeavyBid, On-Screen Takeoff, or similar tools.
Strong understanding of the Ghanaian construction market, including local material costs, labor rates, and regulatory requirements.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and technical documents.
Excellent analytical skills, with attention to detail and accuracy in estimating project costs.
Strong communication and negotiation skills, with experience working with subcontractors and vendors.
Ability to manage multiple projects and meet strict deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
